Rogue's iconic Savage Land outfit gets Venom-ized in this new variant cover by Derrick Chew for Death of the Venomverse #4 from Marvel Comics.

Summary

Rogue’s iconic Savage Land costume from the pages of Uncanny X-Men is getting a Venom makeover thanks to artist Derrick Chew. Chew brings back the classic look with a twist in a new cover for Death of the Venomverse #4.

Sharing the variant cover via Instagram, Derrick Chew takes Rogue’s Savage Land bikini and adds Venom into the mix, resulting in a beautiful retailer-exclusive variant that X-Men fans won’t want to miss.

First appearing in Uncanny X-Men #269 by Chris Claremont, Jim Lee, Art Thibert, and Steve Buccellato, the costume has since become iconic thanks to Lee’s unforgettable artwork. Now, Chew’s Venom-ized version of Rogue’s Savage Land costume pays tribute to Lee’s work, adding in gross details like the symbiote’s fringe lined with teeth and Venom’s iconic tongue, as well as Rogue’s face being half-covered with Venom’s toothy maw. Chew's cover for Death of the Venomverse #4 (by Cullen Bunn, Gerardo Sandoval, Victor Olazaba, Jim Campbell, and Clayton Cowles) is available only at the online retailer Unknown Comic Books.

Rogue’s Savage Land Costume Gets Venomized in Derrick Chew’s Cover

It’s unclear whether this Venom-ized Rogue will actually appear in Death of the Venomverse #4, or if this version of her costume is just an excuse to provide a cool cover, but anything is possible in the multiverse-spanning miniseries. Coming from the creative team of Bunn and Sandoval, Death of the Venomverse sees Carnage traversing the multiverse on a quest to kill every version of Venom that he finds. Yet, given all the Venom variants Carnage has come across, it’s entirely possible that the symbiotic villain will come across a version of the Savage Land Rogue currently taken over by the Venom symbiote.

The original Uncanny X-Men issue saw Rogue stranded in the Savage Land after losing the powers she absorbed from Carol Danvers. Having to fend for herself, Rogue turns her X-outfit into a form-fitting bikini and fashions a spear, defending herself in the harsh conditions of the Savage Land. Rogue eventually joins forces with Magneto, Ka-Zar and Nick Fury to defeat the sorceress Zaladane, preventing the high priestess of Garokk from taking over the Savage Land.

After her Savage Land ordeal, Rogue’s powers return, and she subsequently rejoins the X-Men, where she dons her other iconic leather jacket and leotard costume that was eventually adopted by the '90s X-Men animated series. Whether the Venom-ized Rogue will appear in Death of the Venomverse remains to be seen, but fans definitely won’t want to miss Derrick Chew’s beautiful variant cover.

Death of the Venomverse#4 is on sale September 13th, 2023 from Marvel Comics.
